Multimedia Analysis

  

   

   Over the past decade, there has been an explosive growth in the amount of available multimedia information in our daily lives. The Internet is growing a vast mass of multimedia information repository. At the same time, digital cameras and recorders are becoming more and more popular with the result that the content of multimedia are expanding at an exponential speed. Almost all the personal computers and digital terminals store digital images and video content, and more new content is being created in every minute. The demands from the people for visual media content (image and video) is becoming more various and broad. A wide range of digital devices including personal computers, digital televisions, cell phones and PDAs (personal digital assistants) will be able to access to images, video and other information in different formats through different network transmition methods. Such digital visual information plays an important role for the enrichment of people¨s life, work, education, entertainment and so on. People need much wider range of multimedia content. This trend necessitates the research and development of content-based multimedia analysis, understanding, filtering, monitoring, and surveillance techniques.
  

 

  Considering the diversity and complexity of multimedia content and application, we combine the novelty and practicability of the research to adopt the technologies including computer vision, image processing and pattern recognition to develop object detection and tracking, target recognition and semantic annotation, video structured analysis, event detection and monitoring, safety surveillance, video summarization and adaptation technology, integrating the basic mechanism of visual perception, especially focused on users¨ attention and affective analysis. Our Group undertakes/undertaked National Basic Research Program of China("973" Program),the National Hi-Tech Development Program ("863" program), the National Natural Science Funding, ^Science 100 Program ̄ of Chinese Academy of Sciences, National "242" information security project, the CAS Knowledge Innovation Project, the Beijing Natural Science Funding, etc. Since 2004, more than 100 papers have been published in the prestigious journals and conferences such as IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, Computer Vision and Image Understanding and ACM international Conference on Multimedia. Meanwhile, the group conducted extensive academic cooperation and communication with lots of universities and research institutes in US, Singapore and so on.
